Today is the fifth day of Advent. Each day I will post a short blog aimed at kids that will help tell God’s story from the beginning to the birth of Jesus. And each day Meghan, my wife, will make a Christmas Tree ornament that helps us to remember the day’s Advent lesson. I am really bad at waiting. That is one of the things I find hard about Christmas, all the waiting.I still have a hard time getting to sleep on Christmas Eve. I am just so excited for the morning. One of the worst Christmas Eve’s ever was when I was 8 or 9. Under the tree sat a present that was bigger than me. I wanted to know what was in it, and I wanted to know now. I was driving my parents nuts, and I was making myself worried that Santa wouldn’t come because I wasn’t asleep. Eventually I did fall asleep and when I woke up I got to open my brand new GT sled.

Abraham (Abram) and his with Sarah (Sarai) were also promised a special gift, a son. When God promised them this they were already too old to have a baby. But it was a promise from God. I bet they were really excited. I bet they talked all about what it would be like to have a baby. What they would name him, where they would go, what they would do and on and on. But then a strange thing happened. Months went by and no baby. Then a year went by, then another, and another, and another. Finally nine whole years went by and no baby.

I bet Sarah and Abraham were really disappointed. It seemed like God had let them down, maybe that he had even lied. But just when all hope seemed lost God promised again they would have a baby. He told them by this time next year Sarah would hold her own baby boy. And you know what she did!

Today on the fifth day of Advent we remember that God keeps his promises, even if he makes us wait for a while.
