Eat A Book?!-19th Day Of Advent

Today is the nineteenth day of Advent. Each day I will post a short blog aimed at kids that will help tell God’s story from the beginning to the birth of Jesus. And each day Meghan, my wife, will make a Christmas Tree ornament that helps us to remember the day’s Advent lesson. If you want to make them along with us all you will need is some felt, some glue, and some ribbon.I hope you will join us each day this Advent. You can catch up on any post you may have missed by clicking here.

I don’t know about you but sometimes when I go to other peoples houses I end up eating strange food. Food that looks different than I cook and is made with different ingredients that I am used too. Sometimes when I take a bite I am surprised at how much I like this strange food. Other times when I take a bite and I do my best to be polite but all I want is for the food to go away.

Ezekiel in the bible is a prophet. That means God liked to tell him special things that he got to tell other people. Sometimes God talks to prophets in dreams, sometimes he talks really plainly, but with Ezekiel God seemed to really like appearing in visions and using props. Like one time God showed Ezekiel a book with God’s message on it, and he told Ezekiel to eat it. Can you imagine  that! Could you imagine God telling you to eat a book (scroll actually but still!)?

God was telling Ezekiel to make sure he really took in and understood the things God said so he could tell other people. This is good advice for us too. We really need to make sure we are spending time understanding what God has told us about him. We can do that by reading the bible.

I know that it isn’t always easy to understand, or even fun to read. But lots of people will tell you different things about God. Who he is, what he is like, what he cares about. But you don’t have to take their word for it. God wanted to make sure you and I, and everyone else could learn and understand for themselves.

So go and eat a bit of God’s book today too!

Today on the nineteenth day of Advent we remember that we need to spend time getting to know God through his book, the bible.
